Over half a million Cubans involved in the self-employed sector

Havana, June 22 (RHC)—As of the month of April, 595, 559 Cuban workers were involved in the self-employed sector, according to the island´s Ministry of Labor and Social Security.

Of that figure, the institution said that 32 percent were young people, 35% were women and 14% were salaried employees.

In its report on the behavior of the private sector, the Ministry informed that the provinces of Havana, Matanzas, Villa Clara, Camagüey, Holguín and Santiago de Cuba have the largest amounts of self-employed.

The document also highlights that food processing and sale; passengers and cargo transportation, the renting of houses, rooms and spaces; telecommunications agents, and salaried worker in food processing and transportation are the most representative activities

The Ministry of Labor and Social Security indicated that some 14 thousand measures have been applied for non-compliance of established rules and called on all the employees involved in the self-employed sector to comply with established provisions so that they can preserve their licenses.
