Havana, June 29 (RHC)--US born journalist Lionel Martin, who served as a correspondent in Cuba for several press organizations in the United States and other Western countries, died in Havana Friday evening, at the age of 87.

His remains were incinerated on Saturday.

As a foreign correspondent, Lionel Martin covered the events of the Cuban Revolution and disseminated Cuba’s reality through telegraphic, radio and TV outlets in his country and around the world.

He worked also at Prensa Latina News Agency, with central offices in the Cuban capital.

Lionel Martin’s death has caused deep sorrow in Cuban press circles and among foreign correspondents accredited on the island, who will always remember him, particularly his strong commitment to truth.

Lionel Martin wasn't 87 when he died. He was 91. He was born in 1927. If he was only 86 when he died, that would mean he was only 17 when he wrote his Master's thesis, while attending UC Berkeley, in August 1950. Not possible.
