Spain Monarchs arrive in Havana

Havana, November 11 (RHC)--  The King  of Spain Felipe VI and Queen Letizia arrived in Cuba for an official visit.

Upon their arrival on Monday evening, the monarchs were received at the José Martí airport by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bruno Rodríguez, and during their stay in Havana, they will pay tribute to Cuba's National Hero, Jose Marti.

The Spanish Minister of Foreign Affairs, Josep Borrell, accompanies their Majesties.

According to the program of the visit, the monarchs will hold conversations with Cuban authorities after an official reception in the Palace of the Revolution on Tuesday.  They will also participate in the inauguration of the Spain-Cuba photographic exhibition, "With you in the distance," allegorical to the relations between both nations, that will open at Havana's Grand Theater “Alicia Alonso” and they will participate in a dance show in their honor.

Before traveling to Santiago de Cuba on Thursday,  Felipe VI and Letizia will tour the historic center of Havana and will present the historian of Havana, Eusebio Leal, with the Grand Cross of the Royal and Distinguished Spanish Order of Charles III.

In the eastern city of Santiago de Cuba There, the King will give a speech and pay tribute to the Spaniards who died in the Cuban-Spanish-American war of 1898. In the city’s Morro Castel, the King will remember Admiral Pascual Cervera and the more than 300 Sapnish sailors who died in the naval battle of Santiago de Cuba.

Don Felipe VI will also visit the San Juan Hills, where some 600 fellow countrymen died in the land battle.
