Havana, December 17 (RHC)-- Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel commended the good results achieved in various activities of the national economy during 2019, despite the tensions generated by financial harassment, fuel arrival limitations in the country and the occurrence of a tornado in the Cuban capital.

Speaking on Tuesday in the Economic Affairs Commission of the National Assembly of People's Power (ANPP), the president referred to the Housing Policy, which in its first year achieved progress in subsidies, eliminated bureaucratic hurdles, and advanced in the elimination of houses with dirt floors.

Regarding tourism, he said that although the annual plan to reach five million 100 thousand international visitors will not be met, the fact that Cuba continues to be a safe destination with four million tourists so far this year is a merit.

He recalled that in the current calendar there was a wage increase in the budgeted sector and the economy was able to sustain it, problems of food shortages at the beginning of the year were overcome and opened the way for the raising of an export awareness although much remains to be done.

The railroad's situation improved -- and is described as the best in the last 20 years -- foreign investment has a group of results such as the manufacture of disposable baby diapers.

Díaz-Canel pointed out that progress has been made in cellular connectivity with the expansion of 3G-4G networks, there are already experiences of electronic government and applications, and improvement has been seen in electronic commerce thanks to platforms such as Transfermóvil and EnZona.

The President of the Republic advocated for dynamizing the economy by 2020, removing obstacles, perfecting the business system, as well as creating conditions so that a group of pending things that are in the Constitution and in the Conceptualization in relation to forms of ownership and forms of management have an answer.

He emphasized that it is necessary to unleash the productive forces from a holistic approach and highlighted the importance of removing obstacles from the state company, for which 28 measures have already been approved this year.
