Havana, February 18 (RHC)--The second secretary of the Permanent Mission of Cuba to the United Nations, Indira Guardia, reaffirmed the importance of the Special Committee on the UN Charter.

Speaking at a debate on that UN commission, the diplomat stressed that at this time, some nations are trying to impose reinterpretations of the principles of the Charter, to promote interventionist political agendas, at the expense of the integrity of developing countries.

According to Cubaminrex website, Indira Guardia explained that the Committee is the forum for proposing recommendations that favor the implementation of all the provisions contained in the Charter and ensure that all Member States and  U.N. bodies act in accordance with its principles and purposes.

That is why, she said, the Committee must remain open to inclusive and transparent discussions of any proposed resolution, decision, or action taken by United Nations bodies when they have implications for compliance with and implementation of the Charter.

In concluding her remarks, the diplomat said Cuba supports the strengthening of the governing role of the General Assembly as the principal deliberative, policymaking,  and most representative organ of the United Nations.
