Havana, March 16 (RHC)-- The management of the National Reference Laboratory of the Pedro Kourí Institute of Tropical Medicine -IPK-, in Havana, confirmed on Monday a new positive case of SARS CoV-2.
The patient is a Cuban resident in the municipality of Diez de Octubre, province of Havana, who returned from Spain last March 8, with apparent good health.
On the 11th, at night, he started with mild respiratory symptoms and went to his health area on the 12th in the morning. When interrogated and examined by doctors, he was considered a suspect of COVID-19 and was referred to the Pedro Kourí Institute of Tropical Medicine (IPK) for admission.
So far, the patient's progress is favorable, and he remains clinically stable.
Epidemiological control actions are carried out on persons identified as contacts, who remain asymptomatic and under surveillance.
Three of the previously confirmed cases continue to evolve satisfactorily and are under strict medical surveillance.
In the case of the 61-year-old Italian patient whose health condition worsened during the night of March 15, he remains in a critical condition and is on artificial ventilation. A specialized medical team is continuing intensive treatment measures.
