Havana, March 30 (RHC)-- Havana’s century-old tradition of a gunnery shot at 9 pm took an unusual turn this Sunday.
In years gone by, the gunshot fired from La Cabana Fortress signaled the closing of the walls of what today is Old Havana, a measure needed to protect its inhabitants from pirates and corsairs.
But in 2020, the bang, still audible in vast areas of metropolitan Havana, marked a celebration with a round of applause to health workers who are saving lives on the island and abroad amid the Covid-19 pandemic.
The initiative first raised on social media, was promoted on National Television, and it was observed in many places around the country.
