Cuban President Meets with Russian Foreign Minister

Havana, April 30 (RHC) -- Cuban President Raul Castro met with Sergei Lavrov, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, on Tuesday, during his official visit to Cuba.

Raul and the Russian foreign minister verified the excellent state of bilateral relations, in constant development, and their promising future, in line with the friendly bonds existing between the two peoples and governments. They also addressed current international events.

In a statement issued shortly after the meeting, the Russian Foreign Ministry stated that the Cuban leadership "confirmed their support of Russia's position in relation to the events in Ukraine, standing against double standards and sanctions," adding "The parties stressed the complete convergence of approaches in regard to strengthening multi-lateralism in world affairs, multi-polarity and mutual respect".

According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, the parties also spoke in favor of strengthening cooperation between Russia and the countries of Latin America, including their integration associations.

The distinguished visitor was accompanied by Mikhail L. Kamynin, ambassador of the Russian Federation to Cuba, and by Alexander V. Shchetinin, director of the Department for Latin America in the Russian Foreign Ministry. Attending the meeting for Cuba was Foreign Minister, Bruno Rodriguez.
