Havana, April 28 (RHC)-- Identifying all contacts of people who are positive for COVID-19 is a fundamental need in the battle against the disease.   This was made known on  Tuesday at the meeting of the Havana Provincial Defense Council (CDP). 

With the presence of Luis Antonio Torres Iríbar and Reinaldo García Zapata, president and vice president, respectively, of the CDP in the Cuban capital, health authorities in the province stated that finding every contact of a sick patient and isolating them is vital in the fight against the new coronavirus.

At the headquarters of the Provincial Committee of the Cuban Communist Party, Carlos Alberto Martínez, director of public health in the region, said that rigorous work must be done in the search for these people and for those who are asymptomatic, in order to avoid an increase in contagion.

He also said that at the end of Monday, 26 new cases were positive in Havana, for a total of 603, which now has an incidence rate of 28.04 infected per 100,000 inhabitants, although nine municipalities are above the provincial average.

He added that Centro Habana remains the one with the highest epidemiological risk with an incidence rate of 47.76 confirmed; while 12 events remain open with greater isolation measures, and in none of them are new positive cases reported recently.

At another point in his speech, he said that just over a thousand people are in the isolation centers for epidemiological surveillance, among suspects and contacts.

He also mentioned that the Leonor Perez Pediatric Hospital in Boyeros municipality is being prepared for any contingency, which has 90 beds and could be used if necessary to care for children.
