Havana, June 16 (RHC)-- Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel says that the Latin American news agency Prensa Latina continues to honor the best journalism in the region.

"Prensa Latina: 61 years of honest service to the truth, founded by Che and Massetti," the president wrote on his Twitter account, congratulating the Havana-based medium, which was created on June 16, 1959.

"First voice of the voiceless from Latin America and the Third World.  They are still making history in the multimedia age."  The Cuban president's congratulations were added to those of various personalities from the island and the world for Prensa Latina, which has news bureaus in more than 30 countries.

Prensa Latina was founded as part of what was called "Operation Truth," at a time when the nascent Cuban Revolution was the target of a media campaign of disinformation, lies and disqualifications encouraged by the United States government.

Since then, Prensa Latina is at the service of truth, and to give voice to those excluded by the big transnationals at the service of capital and the centers of power.
