Havana, June 18 (RHC)-- Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel recalled the example of the founding president of the Federation of Cuban Women, Vilma Espín, 13 years after her death.

"Vilma is always present," wrote Díaz-Canel on his Twitter account, which he accompanied with the tags #SomosCuba and #SomosContinuidad.

In another tweet he recalled a reflection by the leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, about the revolutionary: "Vilma's always intelligent, serene, revolutionary and sweet words."

Born on April 7, 1930 in the eastern province of Santigo in Cuba, into a family of high economic standing, Vilma defended dignity, emancipation, justice and equality all her life.

She died on June 18, 2007 in Havana and her remains rest in the Mausoleum of the Second Eastern Frank País Front, a historic site located in the Mícara Mountain in the eastern part of the Caribbean nation.
