Beijing, August 16 (RHC)-- Cuba has received nearly 180 tons of medicines and medical materials from China to guarantee their stable supply in health institutions while facing the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to Ambassador Carlos Miguel Pereira, the supplies were moved from the Shanghai municipality in 30 commercial air shipments and among them there were six direct charter flights with the Cuban flag carrier Cubana de Aviación.  The last of these trips took place this weekend.

In mid-April, the first charter flight to Cuba with medical products purchased in China departed for Havana, with the purpose of strengthening its capabilities while fighting the new coronavirus pandemic.

Pereira explained that the shipment contained items like masks, protective suits, diagnostic kits and also sample transport devices, the latter of which are key from the point of view of clinical management.
