Havana, August 21 (RHC)-- The Cuban Civil Defense General Staff issued  Friday its Early Warning Advisory Number One on the weather situation due to Tropical Depression No.14 and Tropical Storm Laura.

According to information from the Forecast Center of the Meteorological Institute (INSMET), both agencies will influence the entire national territory.

In relation to the Tropical Depression, at 2 p.m. today its central region was 455 km southeast of Cozumel and about 570 km south of Cape San Antonio, the western tip of Cuba, heading northwest, which it will maintain in the next 12 to 24 hours, and could become a Tropical Storm.

The most important thing that can be seen in this system are its areas of clouds with heavier rainfall located hundreds of kilometers north of its center of circulation, so the outermost areas of the Tropical Depression will affect the Isle of Youth and the southern area of the west of the country. During their movement to the northwest, they could remain in the day ahead.

With respect to Tropical Storm Laura, at 2 p.m. it was located 280 kilometers east-southeast of the northern group of the Lesser Antilles arc heading west, which it will maintain for the next 12 to 24 hours.

Although there is uncertainty in its trajectory, attention should be paid to its evolution, appreciating the possibility that from the morning of Sunday 23 the areas of rainfall begin to approach the eastern end of our country.

In both cases, the National General Staff of Civil Defense is guiding the management bodies of the affected territories to keep a watchful eye on the development of these events due to the effects that the rains could have, in particular.

It also recommends taking into account their influence on the complex epidemiological situation, with emphasis on the western region.

The Institute of Meteorology and the National Civil Defence Staff maintain permanent observation of the two hydrometeorological events.
