President Miguel Diaz-Canel assess damage caused by Tropical Storm Eta

Havana,  November 11 (RHC)--Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel assessed Tuesday the damages caused by Tropical Storm Eta on the island, in the usual meeting of the Government's temporary working group.

As part of the meeting, he held video conference exchanges with the authorities of the provinces of Villa Clara, Sancti Spíritus, Pinar del Río, Cienfuegos, Ciego de Ávila, Camagüey, Granma and Santiago de Cuba, informed ocal television.

According to the news report, the Governor of Villa Clara, Alberto López, described the last hours of the province as very tense. The rainfall generated accumulated more than 300 millimeters in several of its locations, such as Placetas and Santa Clara.

The territory reported 56.5 million cubic meters of water in only 24 hours; the province's reservoirs are at 86 percent of their capacity; and more than 22 thousand people were evacuated.

In Sancti Spíritus the floods prevented communication by land with several areas of the territory.

Pinar del Río, the closest to the tropical storm, intensified the actions to protect the population and the material assets, with strong monitoring in the municipalities.

Prime Minister Manuel Marrero called for quantifying possible damages in the shortest time possible, primarily related to agriculture, roads, housing, and water and electricity supply.

The Forecast Center of the Cuban Institute of Meteorology informed Wednesday that the tropical storm Eta inclined its course towards the north and increased its speed with sustained winds of 110 kilometers per hour.
According to the report issued at 06:00 (local time), its center was located at 25.3 degrees North latitude and 84.0 degrees West longitude, 335 kilometers southwest of Tampa, in the Florida peninsula.

The climatic phenomenon increased its speed to 19 kilometers per hour, and as it moves away from the national territory, it is intensifying.
