Cuban medical brigades contribute in 26 countries against the Covid-19

Havana, January 21(RHC) Some 38 medical brigades from the Henry Reeve International Contingent, sent by Cuba, contribute today in 26 countries in the efforts to stop the health crisis caused by the pandemic of the Covid-19.

According to the Ministry of Public Health of the island, those teams count with a total of 2544 collaborators, and 1061 out of the total guarantee the care of patients with Covid-19.

Of these professionals, 909 work in the red zone and 99 in isolation centers.

Recently, the Foreign Minister of Cuba, Bruno Rodriguez, recalled on Twitter the contribution of the island to the confrontation of the Covid-19 in all continents and pointed out that these groups together with the collaboration in health allow to extend solidarity and save lives.

The medical brigades Henry Reeve were created in 2005 by the historical leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, to face the damages caused by Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans in the United States.

Its members are mobilized immediately between 24 and 48 hours, depending on the type of event and the participation is completely voluntary, highlighted the Minsap on its website.

For its contribution to health, particularly in the Covid-19 pandemic context, the International Contingent of Cuban doctors received nominations from different countries for the Nobel Peace Prize 2021.
