Havana, February 16 (RHC)-- The Cuban government promotes a program to develop renewable energies until 2030. By then, they should represent 24 percent of the national energy matrix.

The most significant efforts in this initiative are devoted to the photovoltaic solar energy sector. However, hydroelectric plants, wind farms, and energy-saving policies are also part of the program.

The national Ministry of Science, Technology, and Environment (CITMA) explained that electricity generation is largely based on fossil fuels' overexploitation.

Likewise, foreign investment is also encouraged through benefits and total or partial exemptions, on a temporary or permanent basis, in accordance with the law.
