President Miguel Diaz-Canel speaks with Executives from the Construction Research and Development Center in Havana.

Havana, March 12 (RHC)-- Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel urged on Thursday to create alliances between different science and production centers to take advantage of existing knowledge and technologies to benefit the construction sector.

According to the presidency website, Diaz-Canel addressed the issue during a visit to the Construction Research and Development Center in Havana, where he shared with its workers the importance of innovation for this vital area of the economy.

During the visit, the head of state learned that 47 of the 131 people working in the entity, dedicated to the evaluation and follow-up of construction materials, are linked to different scientific programs.

However, as explained by the engineer Jesús Pulido, general director of the institution, there is still a need to promote a greater academic training of the workers, which will allow a better application of science to production.

This is demanded by projects carried out by the center, such as the development of a plasticizing additive of national production for concretes; or the studies for the use of sludge from the quarrying industry as a construction material.

Díaz-Canel emphasized the need to achieve greater independence in the development of construction materials, and for this purpose, he reiterated the value of science.
