Havana, May 17(RHC)-- President Miguel Díaz-Canel reaffirmed Cuba's commitment to peace in Colombia and warned that any attempt to accuse the island of provoking instability would clash with the truth.
On Twitter, the President said that the Caribbean country has demonstrated more than enough the seriousness with which it assumes the peace processes in the South American state, an unquestionable reality that demolishes any maneuver to link it with the Colombian popular protests.
The general director for Latin America and the Caribbean of the Cuban Foreign Ministry, Eugenio Martínez, also rejected the slanderous accusations of sectors of the Colombian ultra-right and of Cuban origin residing in the United States.
The diplomat insisted that they are trying to use Cuba as a pretext to hide the true causes of the mobilizations in the South American nation and to divert attention from the repression and police brutality that have already caused dozens of deaths.
He emphasized that the Caribbean country does not intervene in Colombia's internal affairs and has demonstrated its commitment to peace.
Martinez pointed out that these false declarations also seek to justify the intensification of the economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed by the United States on the island, which is generating more and more rejection in the international community and within the North American nation itself.
Last May 7, the Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs described as unjustified and unfriendly the expulsion of the first secretary of its embassy in Colombia, Omar Rafael García, declared persona non grata by Bogota due to alleged 'activities incompatible with the provisions of the Vienna Convention'.
