Havana, August 10 (RHC)-- Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel called for raising the culture of law among citizens, for which he urged to address constitutional and legal issues efficiently.

In a meeting held on Monday with specialists and academics in the field, the Cuban head of state urged to make better use of legal information spaces, create more channels of communication with citizens, and encourage their participation in the territories.

Law is transversal to all the processes we carry out, and everything we do must have a legal basis, he said.

According to national television, the debate highlighted the use of law as a tool for the defense of Cuban sovereignty and in the fight against the economic, commercial and financial blockade of the United States.

In that sense, Desiree Llaguno, professor of International Public Law at the University of Havana, affirmed that new coercive regulations are constantly being imposed on Cuba, which negatively impact the life of society and the development of the family economy.

For his part, Marco Carballo, Deputy Attorney General of the Republic, expressed the need to provide further publicity to the transparency with which the judicial processes related to the riots of last July 11, promoted from abroad through social media, are being carried out.

'The Prosecutor's Office does a work of control of the investigations and the decision making in a collegiate manner, which has to do with the individualized evaluation of the participation of each of each individual in the events, taking into account the crimes committed, the elements of evidence and the role of the lawyer,' she pointed out.

According to the vice-president of the National Union of Jurists, Yamila González, the promotion of the culture of law in the population cannot be postponed given the attacks against Cuba, which aim at questioning the functioning of the socialist rule of law.

This exchange is part of the dialogue process initiated last week by the country's top leadership with different sectors of society.
