Havana, September 3 (RHC)— As part of his series of meetings with different sectors of the Cuban society, President Miguel Diaz-Canel met on Thursday with students of the Havana-based Enrique Jose Varona Pedagogical University.
In the meeting, held at the Palace of the Revolution, the President called for continuing encouraging dialogue at all levels of society, for which, he said, teachers have a fundamental role to play.
We have to create a culture of debate in the population from the schools since each class is a space for debate and an exercise in dialogue, he added.
Diaz-Canel stressed the relevance of promoting an education that fosters the appropriation of moral values such as respect and decency, and where history, literature and exact sciences are taught, besides promoting reading to bring students closer to the best of universal and Cuban thought.
This is and will be a battle of ideas and to promote ideas it is necessary to have knowledge, culture, and an important part of that culture is managed through reading, the President affirmed.
