The second donation from Nicaragua arrived at the port terminal of Mariel,
aboard the Augusto César Sandino Ship.
Havana, September 7 (RHC)-- President Miguel Díaz-Canel expressed Cuba's gratitude to Nicaragua for supporting the island's efforts to fight against the Covid-19 pandemic.
The Cuban leader wrote on Twitter: We thank the brotherly Nicaraguan people and President Daniel Ortega for the valuable solidarity cargo of food for our people, which arrived at the Mariel port on the Sandino ship. Thank you, Nicaragua, for the invariable solidarity," wrote the President.
Monday, the second donation from that Central American nation arrived at the port terminal in the western province of Artemisa, aboard the Augusto César Sandino Ship.
The new shipment included 549 tons of red beans and 28,812 gallons of vegetable oil.
The cargo left last Friday from the port of Arlen Siu, located 292 kilometers from Managua, the Nicaraguan capital.
Cuba is facing a complex epidemiological and economic situation due to the surge of the SARS CoV-2 coronavirus, the cause of Covid-19, and the unprecedented tightening of the U.S. economic, commercial, and financial blockade.
In this scenario, the solidarity of governments, organizations, friendship groups, and Cubans living abroad, and the sending of donations to collaborate in the fight against the pandemic, also increased.
