Havana, September 10 (RHC)-- Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel received on Thursday His Eminence Cardinal Sean Patrick O'Malley, Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Boston, who is visiting the Caribbean nation.

According to an official note, the U.S. Catholic Church's representative traveled to the island in response to an invitation from the Archbishop of Santiago de Cuba, Monsignor Dionisio Guillermo García Ibáñez.

His Eminence, who has previously traveled to Cuba, was received with hospitality and respect. During his stay, he visited places associated with the activity of the Church and other sites of interest, such as the Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology.

In that scientific institution, the Archbishop received information about the national effort to develop vaccines, medicines, and equipment with which the country is facing the Covid-19 pandemic.

Cardinal O'Malley was accompanied by Giampiero Gloder, apostolic nuncio of His Holiness in Cuba.

Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez; the head of the Ideological Department of the Central Committee of the Party, Rogelio Polanco; the head of the Office of Attention to Religious Affairs of the Central Committee of the Party, Caridad Diego; and Carlos Fernández de Cossío, general director for the United States of the Foreign Ministry joined the President during the encounter with Cardinal O'Malley.
