Cuban President holds encounter  with representatives of the LGTBIQ+ community

Havana, October 8 (RHC)-- Cuban President, Miguel Díaz-Canel, held a dialogue on Friday with representatives of the LGTBIQ+  community, whom he invited to participate actively in the construction of an increasingly inclusive nation.

At the Palace of the Revolution, the head of state urged participants to 'build together the country we want and perfect Socialism.'

The director of the National Center for Sex Education (CENESEX), Mariela Castro, described this dialogue as fundamental to advancing the social equity plan that expands and perfects the nation to eliminate all vestiges of discrimination.

Mercy García, a member of the Humanity for Diversity Network (HXD), also thanked "the unique opportunity to be heard by the country's top authorities, an unforgettable experience on the value of fighting for what is fair.

She alluded to families, schools, work, and social centers, where the great battle must be fought now with tools of great value such as the Magna Carta that defends the rights of equality and dignity, and with a  Code of Families soon to be approved..

Francisco Rodríguez Cruz, also from HXD, alluded to how much it means for LGBTIQ+ people to have reached this Friday's exchange, which he described as historic.

 "For us, it means a lot," he said, "It is the result of the work of many people, of many institutions which has led this effort for many years.

According to the Presidency's official Twitter profile, among the attendees were activists from social networks dedicated to facilitating interaction between lesbian and bisexual women, trans people, couples and families, and young defenders of sexual rights.

The meeting gives continuity to others that the Head of State has been holding with representatives of different sectors and groups of society to know their opinions and suggestions on various issues of the country's life to draw strategies to solve problems and improve the Cuban system.

With that purpose, also on Friday, the President also assessed the changes in the socio-economic environment of the La Corea neighborhood, in the capital's San Miguel del Padrón municipality, included in a prioritized government program of community development.
