Holguín, Cuba, October 20 (RHC)-- Leon Binedell, president of the Sherritt International company, affirmed that this Canadian entity will maintain its presence in Cuba despite the economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed by the United States on the island.

Since 1994, Sherritt has been managing the Moa Níckel S.A-Pedro Soto Alba joint venture with the Cuban state, where mixed nickel and cobalt sulfides are obtained and commercialized as sulfuric acid for the national industry.

During a tour of the Pedro Soto Alba plant in the eastern part of the country, Binedell emphasized his corporation's commitment to continue doing business in the national territory, even if the United States chooses to tighten sanctions against the largest of the Antilles.

Accompanied by Liván Arronte, Minister of Energy and Mines, the executive checked the factory's production processes and learned updated details on the distribution of the mining concessions and the exploitation plan for the deposits.

The Toronto-based firm maintains excellent relations with the Cuban nation and is committed to strengthening and expanding business in mining, oil, and energy, the Ministry of Energy and Mines added in a tweet referring to the visit of the new president of Sherritt International.

Regarding the work meeting, Liván Arronte highlighted that this contact is a sample of the favorable state of the agreements with that company and a way to evaluate the strategies aimed at maintaining production and its increase in the future.
