Havana, October 29 (RHC)-- The first secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba (CC-PCC), Miguel Díaz Canel, paid tribute Friday to the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro Ruz, in front of the monolith that holds his ashes in the Santa Ifigenia cemetery in Santiago de Cuba.
The president also paid homage to José Martí, our National Hero; to the initiator of the independence efforts, Carlos Manuel de Céspedes, and the Mother of the Homeland, Mariana Grajales.
The dignitary was accompanied by the recently elected first secretary of the PCC in that eastern province, José Ramón Monteagudo Ruíz, and the outgoing secretary, Lázaro Expósito Canto, who headed the Communist Party of Santiago territory for more than 12 years, with successful results.
Díaz-Canel presided Friday morning the extraordinary plenary session of the PCC Provincial Committee, which approved the change of leadership in Santiago de Cuba at the request of the organization's Political Bureau.
