Havana, November 1 (RHC) Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel considered a bridge of love and solidarity the creation of a square dedicated to the Cuban medical brigade Henry Reeve who faced the Covid-19 in Italy.

The President shared on Twitter an article from Granma newspaper on this initiative of the Friendship Association between the two nations in the municipality of Crema.

"Where there was a field hospital, there is now an Italian square dedicated to the Henry Reeve. A bridge of love and solidarity," the head of state wrote on the social media network.

Italian activist Marco Papacci told Granma that the place recalls the work carried out by Cuban professionals, the welcome given by the people, and the mutual feelings of affection.

At the inauguration, a marble plaque was unveiled by the local authorities and Cuban diplomatic representatives.

The Henry Reeve International Contingent doctors arrived in Crema in March 2020 and worked there until June 8 of that year.

They improvised a temporary hospital facility in the Plaza Hospital de Campo and helped the Italian professionals mitigate the pandemic's effects.

According to official sources, 57 Henry Reeve medical brigades have worked in some 40 territories, including 11 in Africa, three in Europe, and 23 in Latin America and the Caribbean.
