Paris, January  2 (RHC)-- Unesco greeted the government and people of Cuba on the 63rd anniversary of the triumph of the Revolution and recognized the island's commitment to the ideals of the organization.

Our warmest congratulations on the anniversary of your country's national holiday, January 1, expressed on behalf of the multilateral body its deputy director-general for Priority Africa and External Relations, Firmin Edouard Matoko, in a message sent to the Cuban permanent representative to Unesco, Yahima Esquivel.

The official also noted the desire to strengthen for mutual benefit the ties that have always existed between Cuba and the organization of 193 member states specialized in education, science, and culture.

In this regard, he reiterated the availability of UNESCO to contribute to achieving the goals of the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda and multilateralism, especially in the context of the current health and economic crisis caused by Covid-19.

Matoko mentioned in the congratulation the outstanding participation of the island in the multilateral body through its Permanent Delegation at the headquarters in this capital, the Cuban National Commission for Unesco, and the Regional Office for Culture for Latin America and the Caribbean, located in Havana.
