Havana, January  15 (RHC)-- The Mexican government recently returned 102 irregular migrants to Cuba, following the agreements signed between the two nations on this issue.

With those who arrived on January 11 at Havana's José Martí International Airport (31 women and 71 men), a total of 289 people have been returned in five transfer operations carried out this year.

The General Directorate of Identification, Immigration and Foreigners (DIIE) explained that these Cuban citizens left the country legally and joined the irregular flow to the United States in Mexico.

The source said that in 2021, 71 operations were carried out, 58 of them by sea from the United States and 13 by air from various countries, through which 1,580 Cubans were returned.

Upon arrival in our country, the returnees undergo the necessary sanitary and customs controls and are transported to their provinces of origin.

The DIIE reiterated Cuba's commitment to maintaining legal, orderly, and safe migratory flows.

It also denounced Washington's hostile policy, which encourages this activity through provisions such as the Cuban Adjustment Act and obstacles to the processing of visas.
