Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel, through his Twitter account, called on the people to contribute to the debates on the draft Law on the Code of Families that began this Tuesday throughout the country.

Havana, February 2 (RHC)-- Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel, through his Twitter account, called on the people to contribute to the debates on the draft Law on the Code of Families that began this Tuesday throughout the country.

"Cuba is ready for the Popular Consultation of the Code of Families, from February 1st until April.  I invite you to consciously participate in this exercise of democracy to enrich the project with everyone's contribution. #CubaViveEnLasFamilias."

More than 7 million people have the right to participate in the popular consultation on these legal norms, to offer their approval, disagreement or proposals for modification to the project that has already received the approval of the National Assembly of People's Power.

Authorities of the National Electoral Council (CEN) foresee the completion of the delivery of the proposals to the Drafting Commission for their processing in May, and prior to that date two information breaks were planned.  The code will be re-evaluated by the parliament, which will approve a new version to be submitted to a popular referendum.

In recent declarations to Prensa Latina, the president of the Cuban Society of Civil and Family Law, Leonardo Pérez, commented that the recognition of multi-parentally and socio-affective relationships characterize the Family Code and makes it one of the most groundbreaking in Latin America. According to the expert, the text proposes a greater inclusion, not only for people diverse for reasons of their sexual orientation, but also different because of their age, the exercise of capacity and plurality.
