Havana, July 30 (RHC) -– Cuban Domestic Trade Minister Mary Blanca Ortega said in Havana that her entity is very much involved in fighting illegalities and indiscipline to appropriately guarantee its services to the people.

Parallel to our main role, which is guaranteeing multilateral supply of services to the people, we have taken a series of actions as part of the control strategy of the Ministry and other entities like the General Comptroller’s Office, the General Attorney Office and the Investigative Police Services, said the official.

A major aspect is attending to the complaints of the people to take concrete actions of a pro-active nature in order to not only prevent corruption actions from taking place, but also indiscipline and illegalities that occur in the field of domestic trade and services.

The entities with the Domestic Trade Ministry supply high-demand products, such as foodstuffs, and other domestic items, which can be the subjects of illegal acts. Therefore, the Ministry has already identified the places and public offices which can be the target of illegal traffic, theft or other illegalities said the official, who mentioned for instance, warehouses, transportation units, or businesses that commercialize products and services.

Ortega, who is also parliament deputy, pointed at truck drivers, chiefs and employees at warehouses and managers of local services, as the most possible subjects of illegalities and indiscipline. She recalled that lack of control and indiscipline in general by executives and employees contribute to corruption.

The official said that her ministry has limited financial resources, however their duty is to appropriately meet their plans; while raising awareness about all these facts among directives and workers in the sector is a major task being undertaken by her ministry.
