Colombian Senator Gloria Flórez

Bogota, Sept 21 (RHC) Senator Gloria Flórez confirmed that a group of more than 80 Colombian congressmen will send a letter to their counterparts in the United States to remove Cuba from the list of countries sponsoring terrorism.

The letter will be sent to the Vice President of that nation and President of the Senate, Kamala Harris; the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi, and also to the President of the United Nations General Assembly, Csaba Kőrösi.

The senator emphasized that Cuba's work over many years with Colombia has been to support the search for peace.

In addition, the island has contributed with all its effort and its territory to ensure dialogue and political negotiations as happened with the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia-People's Army and the State and now with the National Liberation Army (ELN), she stressed.

"The only thing Cuba has done is to respect the agreements reached with the international community and with the Colombian State and unfortunately the past government, in order to destroy and shatter peace, asked to punish Cuba for its real commitment to peace in Colombia", she stressed.

She explained to the press that this letter is focused precisely so that the United States review this list that has brought enormous negative consequences for the Cuban people which, together with the economic, financial, and commercial blockade of Washington, affects the way of life of the population of the island.

She stressed that a new peace process is being prepared with the National Liberation Army in which Cuba will be fundamental and that is why they are asking for justice and to be removed from the spurious list.

"This gesture by the United States would be a great contribution to peace in Colombia and as our slogan says and it is the conviction of all Latin America and the Caribbean: peace in Colombia is peace for the whole region", he stressed.

The congressmen who signed the letter are part of the broad Colombia-Cuba Parliamentary Friendship Group.

For his part, Congressman Gabriel Becerra also pointed out that this initiative is consistent with the concept of Gustavo Petro's government regarding Cuba's position on peace in Colombia.

We are making this request so that there is a different orientation, the blockade is eliminated, and new relations between States based on respect for the sovereignty of nations are allowed.

Last week, at the Caribbean, is Women International Meeting, a campaign was launched to remove Cuba from the arbitrary list, to which more and more voices are joining this South American nation. (Source: PL)
