Mexican Senate Board of Directors expresses solidarity with Cuba
Mexico City, Sept 29 (RHC) The Mexican Senate's Board of Directors presented a statement of solidarity with the people of Cuba for the damages caused in the west of the island by Hurricane Ian.
This text, presented by Senator Beatriz Paredes, states that the Senate of the Republic regrets the incalculable damages that the passage of Hurricane Ian has caused to the electrical infrastructure, agriculture, and thousands of homes in the western region of Cuba and all the countries in the Caribbean area that were affected.
This Authority expresses its solidarity with the brotherly Cuban people and all the affected countries in the Caribbean area, and respectfully urges the Government of Mexico to find bilateral and international cooperation routes to help in the recovery of the affected areas and the re-establishment of the primary infrastructure that was severely damaged by Hurricane lan.
In its statement, it indicates that the pronouncement was adopted because last September 27th, the eye of hurricane lan made landfall in western Cuba at 3:24 local time, with category 3 on the Saffir-Simpson scale, its maximum sustained winds at that time were 205 kilometers per hour with higher gusts.
In addition, the meteorological phenomenon caused heavy rains and winds, leaving Cuba with sustained winds of up to 185 kilometers per hour and gusts that exceeded 200 kilometers per hour in some parts of the nation.
It adds that Ian left great damage and flooding, as well as great economic losses, and massive power outages in its southern journey through the western part of Cuba, leaving the entire island without electricity.
After its passage through Cuba, the storm surge increased rapidly in the Caribbean area, so this meteorological phenomenon may affect different countries in the region, leaving in its path possible damages, states the request by Senator Beatriz Paredes Rangel, president of the Foreign Affairs, Latin America and the Caribbean Commission.
