Havana, October 14 (RHC)-- The United Nations announced through the spokesman of the Secretary General, Stéphane Dujarric, an action plan for an equivalent value of 42 million dollars to support Cuba in the needs of the people affected by Hurricane Ian.

According to the Foreign Ministry's website, the initiative should benefit nearly 800,000 inhabitants, and includes US$3.7 million reallocated from UN team funding, as well as an additional US$7.8 million from the UN Central Emergency Response Fund.

The plan supports immediate response efforts and long-term recovery needs in sectors such as housing, health, education, food security, and access to clean water and electricity.

Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla thanked through his Twitter account, on behalf of the people and the government, for the valuable support for the recovery from the damage caused by the meteor in the west of the country.

"Your contribution will benefit many affected families," he wrote.

The Pan American Health Organization also donated more than eight tons of sanitary material and medicines, a kit with supplies for the health sector was delivered, as well as food, water supplies, sanitation and emergency resources for shelters, destined by the World Food Program, the United Nations Children's Fund and the UN network for development.

Cuba is coordinating actions with international organizations to face the disaster left by Ian, especially in the western province of Pinar del Río, while it is advancing in the recovery work with its own efforts and the support of other nations, the Foreign Ministry said.
