Manuel Guerra, secretary general of the Communist Party of Peru-Patria Roja.

Lima, Oct 25 (RHC) Peruvian political leader and writer, Manuel Guerra, expressed full confidence that the UN will once again reject the U.S. blockade against Cuba, which he described as Washington's most inhumane and cruel measure.

This siege against the island is the most inhuman and criminal measure "with which U.S. imperialism intends to defeat the Cuban Revolution", said Guerra, secretary general of the Communist Party of Peru-Patria Roja (PC-PR), on the treatment of the issue by the UN General Assembly, on November 2 and 3, 2010.

In declarations to Prensa Latina, he said that the great assembly will confirm the condemnation of the blockade, as it has done year after year for the last three decades, which is evidence of "the diplomatic isolation of the US empire about Cuba".

He added that a new rejection of this unilateral punitive measure "that this great power imposes on a country small in its geography, but immense in its solidarity with the whole world" takes on special significance.

The leader also stressed the failure of the economic blockade, which seeks to generate social discontent to destroy the Revolution and which has not succeeded in surrendering Cuba, not even by appealing to armed invasion, or the countless attempts to assassinate Fidel Castro.

"Those of us who are committed to peace, respect for nations, non-interference in the internal affairs of countries, must redouble our solidarity with socialist Cuba and openly condemn the criminal and illegal U.S. blockade", he added.

On the other hand, he condemned what he described as an infamous campaign of attacks on Cuba by extreme right-wing sectors in Peru.

Highlighting the historic relations between the two peoples, he recalled that "Cuba has been in the front-line of solidarity providing support when we have been punished by natural disasters".
