Russian civil society condemns the blockade against Cuba

Moscow, Nov 3 (RHC) The Civic Chamber of the Russian Federation today strongly condemned the U.S. economic, financial, and commercial blockade of Cuba and demanded its elimination.

In the communiqué, the organization representing Russian civil society states that this coercive measure is contrary to the fundamental objectives and principles of the United Nations.

The United States unilaterally exerts political and economic sanctions pressure on Cuba and ignores the calls of the international community, voting against the UN General Assembly resolution demanding the lifting of the blockade, the document stresses.

The text also points out that Washington's sanctions hinder the development of the Cuban economy and violate the rights and interests of the island's inhabitants in such important areas as the provision of medicines and necessities.

These discriminatory measures by Washington were intensified during the Covid-19 pandemic, which goes against all the norms and principles of international law and human rights, as well as the prevention and elimination of emergencies and crises, the communiqué points out.

During this difficult period for the whole world, Russian society demonstrated its support for the Cuban people by organizing nationwide fundraising for the purchase and delivery of medical supplies and other essential goods.

In its statement, the Chamber states that these efforts are not enough; coordinated actions by the entire international community are required to achieve Cuba's economic independence.

In this sense, the entity welcomes the desire of the peoples of the world, including the American public, to lift the economic, commercial, and financial blockade against the Republic of Cuba.

The Civic Chamber expresses its solidarity with the Cuban people, who are defending their freedom and independence, and calls on the international community to strongly condemn the discriminatory actions of the United States against Cuba, according to the document. (Source: PL)
