Havana, Dec 17 (RHC) Cuban university students began the activities of the tenth congress of the Federation of University Students (FEU), with a tribute in front of the monument to Julio Antonio Mella, founder of that organization.

The steps of the University of Havana (UH), a scene of the historical struggles of the student and revolutionary movements of the island, were filled with colors and joy with the presence of the 300 delegates and guests of the conclave.

The intense agenda started after the parade of the delegations representing all the provinces and the special municipality of Isla de la Juventud, an activity that was attended by the member of the Council of State and rector of the UH, Miriam Nicado; and the FEU’s president Karla Santa.

Also in attendance were the head of the Office of Attention to the Organizations of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC), Julio César García; the first secretary of the Young Communist Union, Aylín Álvarez, as well as officials of the PCC, the Government and other mass organizations.

The debates began on Saturday, as the delegates analyzed the fulfillment of the agreements of the previous Congress. They also participated in the presentation of the book Las luchas de Mella en la Universidad, by Fabio Fernandez and Alejandro Sanchez.

The tenth congress of the FEU is taking place amid the celebrations for the centenary of the organization and is scheduled to formally open tomorrow December 18 at the Museum of the Revolution, in this capital. The delegates will be able to participate these days in actions of impact in the communities and will hold the plenary session that will propose the organization's candidates for deputies to the National Assembly of People's Power.
