Cuban university students propose candidates to the Parliament
Havana, Dec 18 (RHC) The national council of the University Student Federation (FEU) today proposed its candidates for deputies to the National Assembly of People's Power (ANPP).
Around 300 nominees, including personalities such as the leader of the Revolution, Raúl Castro, and President Miguel Díaz-Canel, made up the list of university students, which included students, professors, and youth leaders, among others.
At the meeting, FEU president Karla Santana stressed the importance of this step and the responsibility assumed by the Council members, since the Parliament is essential in the country's political system and represents the Cuban people, she said.
She referred to the democratic nature of the process since the proposals of the legislature are born from the grassroots, from the delegates to the municipal assemblies, and from those proposed in the plenary sessions of the mass organizations, so that the National Assembly of People's Power resembles society.
Since last December 1, the Council of State summoned this process, protected by the Constitution and Law No 127 "Electoral Law", the plenary sessions of the mass organizations have made their nominations, which conclude this Sunday with the meeting of the university students.
