Cuba and Chile held an inter-chancellery meeting
Havana, Jan 12 (RHC) The website of the Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MINREX) reported that Cuba and Chile held this Wednesday, the VI Meeting of the Mechanism of Inter-Chancellery Political Consultations.
The meeting was chaired by Josefina Vidal Ferreiro, deputy head of MINREX, and Ximena Fuentes Torrijo, undersecretary of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Chile.
During the meeting, both parties reviewed various issues of bilateral interest and identified areas with the potential to advance in strengthening relations.
They also exchanged on regional and international challenges, agreeing on the importance of maintaining a united region.
The two delegations acknowledged the existence of historic ties between the two nations and proposed a set of actions to promote bilateral cooperation and boost ties between the peoples in the economic, commercial, cultural, and sports spheres, among others.
Cuban Foreign Ministry officials updated the Chilean counterpart on the current situation of the country and the impact of the blockade imposed by the U.S. government on the Cuban people.
Chile has historically voted in favor of the United Nations General Assembly resolution demanding an end to the blockade.
The meeting recognized the importance for both governments of resuming this space for political discussion, which allows a comprehensive review of the state of relations between Cuba and Chile. (Source: ACN)
