Colombia's National Institute for Drug and Food Surveillance (INVIMA) confirmed that the South American nation is authorized to export beef, pork, poultry, dairy products, and meat derivatives to Cuba

Havana, Jan 16 (RHC) Colombia's National Institute for Drug and Food Surveillance (INVIMA) confirmed Monday in Bogota that the South American nation is authorized to export beef, pork, poultry, dairy products, and meat derivatives to Cuba.

The permit was the result of the audit carried out by the National Center for Animal Health (CENASA) of the Antillean country last November and December.

" To strengthen cooperation between both parties and guarantee a fluid food trade, the INVIMA received the Cuban delegation, and worked in close coordination with the Colombian Agricultural Institute, with the support of entities linked to the sector and the commercial establishments concerned," the health authority specified in a communiqué.

The document detailed that they have the support of the Colombian Foreign Ministry and the Cuban embassy.

It added that this important achievement was obtained as a result of the visit that the Minister of Commerce, Industry, and Tourism, Germán Umaña Mendoza made to Havana on November 13 and 14, 2022, where it was agreed to carry out this audit.

INVIMA stressed that the recognition of Colombia's official inspection system, granted for a period of two years, translates into new export opportunities.

Based on the continuous work carried out by INVIMA and the Colombian Agricultural Institute with CENASA, in the next few days, the final versions of the sanitary export certificates that will accompany the shipments will be agreed upon.

This will allow the animal health and safety requirements that will be verified by the Colombian sanitary authorities, which are necessary for the development of exports. (Source: Prensa Latina)
