Panamanians highlight solidarity with Cuba
Panama City, Feb 8 (RHC) The closing of the Anti-imperialist Day held in the eastern Panamanian province of Colon ratified the support to the struggle of nations such as Cuba, Nicaragua, and Venezuela.
In the conclusions of the forum, dedicated to the 170th anniversary of the birth of the Cuban hero and apostle of Latin American independence, José Martí, the coordinator of the Colon chapter of the movement of solidarity with the island and other peoples, Cornelio Gondola, underlined the visionary thinking of the founder of the Cuban Revolutionary Party.
In his introductory remarks at the event held at the Regional University Center of Colón, Góndola stressed the importance of young students becoming familiar with the truth of sister nations facing media attacks orchestrated by large transnational corporations to distort their reality.
During the event, they also underlined the commitment of Panamanian fraternal organizations to defend the work of these Revolutions, harassed by the criminal blockade imposed by the United States.
During his intervention, Cuban Ambassador Victor Cairo indicated that his country has been threatened by Yankee imperialism since the 19th century, something that Martí warned about when he denounced the evils afflicting the peoples of the world.
Martí called for unity within diversity, to confront the Monroe Doctrine spread by the elites of economic power in the United States, he recalled.
He also explained that the leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, rescued Marti's thoughts and defined together with the people the anti-imperialist character of that revolutionary process.
Condemning the U.S. blockade and the more than 240 unilateral measures maintained by Joe Biden's administration, the diplomat remarked that nothing will yield the creative resistance and solidarity of a people that sends doctors to cure and not bombs to kill.
The Nicaraguan ambassador Marvin Ortega and the first secretary of the Venezuelan diplomatic delegation, Celso Lista, also participated in the activity.
To conclude the meeting, the member of the board of directors of the Coalition for the Unity of Colon and the Broad Front, Edgardo Voitier, underlined the history of the struggle of the Isthmian nation to build a country with justice and social equity.
The day also saw the approval of the Declaration of Colón, which denounced the interfering attitude of the US ambassador in Panama, Mari Carmen Aponte, who intends to dictate guidelines to be followed.
The text also condemned the siege imposed by Washington on Cuba, Venezuela, and Nicaragua, as well as the harassment of Bolivia.
The participants repudiated unilateral sanctions against China, Russia, Iran, and Syria and supported a democratic solution to the situation in Haiti, Palestine, Peru, and the Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic. (Prensa Latina)
