Cuba and Portugal promote medical and biopharmaceutical cooperation

Havana, Feb 24 (RHC) Cuba and Portugal promoted medical and biopharmaceutical cooperation, with the signing of a memorandum of understanding by the Ministers of Health, José Ángel Portal and Manuel Francisco Pizarro de Sampaio e Castro, respectively.

During an official exchange held at the headquarters of the Ministry of Public Health, in the Cuban capital, Portal highlighted the capacities for joint development and the interest in establishing contacts around the biopharmaceutical industry.

He recalled that the Caribbean Island registers more than 25,000 cooperators from the sector in various regions of the world and highlighted the intention to promote medical collaboration in that European nation.

Portal expressed the need to establish joint work between universities of both nations to evaluate the study programs, technical capacity, and training of doctors.

In this context, the Portuguese minister highlighted the strong friendly relations between both countries, which contribute to the exchange in health, he specified.

In addition, he signified the importance of having a space for economic cooperation in the medical industry, especially related to the transfer of biotechnology.

As part of the program of his official visit to the largest of the Antilles, the Portuguese delegation will tour the Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology, and the Center for State Control of Medicines, Medical Equipment, and Devices. (Source: PL).
