Cuba praises progress in Colombia's peace talks

Havana, Feb 26 (RHC) Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez welcomed the progress of talks between the Colombian government and the National Liberation Army (ELN), to achieve peace in that South American country.

Both delegations announced in a joint communiqué, the progress achieved in the second round of talks in Mexico City.

Among other aspects, the text states that "the delegations agreed on vital issues to clearly and firmly develop this peace process".

These include the legal characterization of ELN, the creation of a point of contact and communication of the ELN that will function between the dialogue cycles, and the terms of reference that will guide the Group of Countries of Accompaniment, Support, and Cooperation for this peace process.

Also, to adopt the Report of the Humanitarian Commission of the Table that visited the zone of Bajo Calima and Medio San Juan, and to assume the responsibilities of each of the parties of the Table to guarantee the continuity of this humanitarian process, as well as an agreement on pedagogy and communications towards a culture of peace.

Negotiations between the Government and the guerrilla were interrupted for four years, but were resumed in November 2022 in Caracas, the capital of Venezuela, and are currently taking place in Mexico (Source: Prensa Latina).
