Havana, Feb 28 (RHC) The Government of Japan, together with the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), delivered on Monday a state-of-the-art ambulance to assist pregnant women in critical condition.
Japan's ambassador to Cuba, Hirata Kenji, pointed out that the donation is part of the project "Strengthening health capacity for the COVID-19 crisis", signed by his country and UNICEF in October 2021.
At the National Medical Emergency Base, the ambassador affirmed that this is one more sign of solidarity and friendship between the Japanese people and the government to help the Cuban people in their struggle for development.
He said that this ambulance will help pregnant women with complications to move quickly to health centers and receive medical attention during their journey.
Alejandra Trossero, the UNICEF representative in Cuba, said that through this project they have strengthened the cold chain for child vaccination and now the immediate response capacity for the care of mothers in critical situations has been strengthened, which has an impact on preserving the health of the mother and baby.
The representative of the international organization thanked the Japanese people and government for the trust placed in UNICEF and for making them part of the project, which is in line with its mission to ensure that children, adolescents, and pregnant women receive the care they need.
About the characteristics of the ambulance, Trossero explained that it was purchased with the specifications of the Ministry of Public Health (MINSAP), and it is equipped with first-world material.
Dr. Carlos Pérez, national head of Emergency and Transplants, thanked the delivery of this advanced life support ambulance.
Dr. Tania Torres, director of the national base of Medical Emergencies, pointed out that this is a mobile intensive care unit with equipment for mechanical ventilation, the management of polytraumatized pregnant women, and the clinical care of critical maternal patients.
Likewise, Déborah Rivas, Vice Minister of Foreign Trade and Investment, thanked the government of Japan and its people for their solidarity with Cuba (Source: MINSAP).
