Cuban President evokes victims of Argentinian dictatorship

Havana, March 24 (RHC) - The first secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel, evoked today the 30,000 disappeared from the civic-military dictatorship in Argentina, on the occasion of Memory Day for Truth and Justice.

On his Twitter profile, he stated: “I hug sister Argentina on the National Day of Remembrance for Truth and Justice. Eternal tribute to the 30,000 victims of the military dictatorship”.

After the coup action of March 1976, 30,000 people were murdered or disappeared in that southern country, over the course of seven years, within the framework of Operation Condor directed by the Central Intelligence Agency of the United States.

For four decades, every March 24, a massive march to the Plaza de Mayo in Buenos Aires, organized by groups defending human rights, has been traditional.

The date was instituted in 2002 by law in memory of the numerous victims, for which it is arranged that in schools students, directors and teachers discuss and understand the scope of the serious economic, social and political consequences of that period.

Argentinian president Alberto Fernández announced the start of the construction of a Space for the Memory and Promotion of Human Rights in the former clandestine detention, torture and extermination center Campo de Mayo, work that will be completed in 2024. (Source: Prensa Latina)
