Havana, March 27 (RHC) Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel expressed his mourning for the death of the renowned Italian journalist, writer and television host, Gianni Miná.

On his Twitter profile, the Cuban president affirmed that his country receives with deep sadness the news of the death of Miná, at the age of 84, whom he described as a notable intellectual and dear friend. “His unforgettable interviews with Fidel (Castro) and his fight for justice, earned him our admiration and affection. Our condolences to family and friends”, added the head of state on that social network.

Miná began his career as a sports journalist in 1959 at Tuttosport, of which he was later director from 1996 to 1998, and in 1960 he made his debut at RAI collaborating in the creation of sports reports on the Rome Olympic Games.

From 1965 he worked on documentaries and investigations for numerous programs, and in 1981 he won the San Vicente Award for best television journalist of the year.

He made more than 60 documentaries, with several awards. In 1987 he became world famous for a memorable 16-hour interview with the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, which inspired a book published in several languages ​​around the world.

In his extensive work as a writer, journalist and documentarian, the essay Continente desaparecido stands out, as well as books such as Fidel, An Encounter with Fidel, The Pope and Fidel, A better world is possible, The disappeared continent has reappeared, and Politically incorrect, a journalist outside the choir.
