Large delegation of youth from the US travels to Cuba
Havana, April 24 (RHC) - A delegation of 150 young leaders of social movements and organizations from the United States will travel to Cuba today, where they will carry out an extensive program of activities and participate in the May Day celebrations.
“As young leaders in the United States we want to affirm our right to learn, exchange, and build with the Cuban people who live under cruel sanctions and remain on the list of state sponsors of terror for no credible reason,” said activist Manolo de los Santos.
The delegation - the largest of its kind to visit Cuba in decades - will have a busy agenda until May 3, beginning tomorrow at Casa de las Américas with a panel on rights humans in Cuba.
The program also includes visits to places of interest, among them the Latin American School of Medicine, capital neighborhoods in transformation, scientific institutions and the Fidel Castro Center, dedicated to preserving the legacy of the leader of the Cuban Revolution.
They will also visit the central city of Santa Clara, in Villa Clara province, where they will meet with young people and pay homage to the Argentinian-Cuban guerrilla fighter Ernesto Che Guevara and his fellow fighters, in the Mausoleum that keeps his remains. Back in Havana, the members of the group will participate in the celebration for International Workers' Day, and on May 2 they will attend the solidarity meeting with Cuba at the Convention Center.
The delegation will renew the historic solidarity ties between the people of Cuba and the United States, despite President Joe Biden’s aggressive foreign policy, said De Los Santos, co-executive director of The People's Forum, one of the coordinating organizations of the initiative.
The trip will take place at a crucial moment, in which public opinion in the United States about the US blockade against Cuba is changing and youth are increasingly questioning why the Caribbean country is the target of the hostile policy.
The Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Center and the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples will host the delegation of the young Americans during their stay on the island. (Source: Prensa Latina)
