Cuba guarantees conditions for dialogue between Colombian government and the National Liberation Army
Havana, Apr 29 (RHC) - Cuba today guarantees the conditions for the Third Cycle of Peace Talks between the Government of Colombia and the National Liberation Army (ELN), whose delegation is already in Havana.
The general director of Latin America and the Caribbean of the Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Eugenio Martínez, stated this on his Twitter account and commented on the presence of the ELN representation for the start of the talks on May 2.
On April 25, Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez announced the date on which Cuba would host this meeting and affirmed that his country would act with the traditional disposition and impartiality in its capacity as guarantor and alternative venue.
Last March, the High Commissioner for Peace confirmed that the island agreed to host this third cycle and stressed "that the peace delegations of the Colombian Government and the ELN deeply thank the Cuban Government and its people for their unconditional willingness and fundamental support".
Negotiations between the government and the guerrillas were interrupted for four years, but they resumed in November 2022 in Caracas and later took place in Mexico. (Source: Prensa Latina)
