Heavy floods due to rains in Uganda
Havana, May 6 (RHC)-- Cuba's Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez sent through his Twitter account today his deepest condolences to the families and relatives of the dead victims, belonging to the Kigezi-Rwenzori region, to the people and government of Uganda in view of the damages caused by the rains and landslides registered in the country.
Government authorities reported that 18 people died after their homes were buried by a landslide caused by torrential rains.
According to the Uganda Red Cross Society, most of the dead were women and children and efforts are still underway to provide aid to the affected survivors.
This past week, heavy rains also left 176 dead in the Democratic Republic of Congo and 130 dead in Rwanda.
