Earthquake in Japan

Havana, May 6 (RHC)-- Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez today lamented the human and material damage caused by an earthquake in Japan measuring 6.5 on the Richter scale.

On his Twitter account, the foreign minister wrote: "We deeply regret the human and material damage caused by the earthquake in Ishikawa prefecture, Japan. We extend our heartfelt condolences to the Japanese government and people."

According to press reports, Japanese authorities informed this Friday that one person died and more than 20 were injured as a consequence of the strong earthquake that affected Ishikawa prefecture, in western Japan.

The earthquake caused several houses to collapse and residents were warned of possible aftershocks and landslides in the coming days.

Japan is located on the so-called Ring of Fire, one of the most active seismic zones in the world, so its infrastructures are designed to withstand earthquakes.
