Cuban President Backs Putin, after attempted armed rebellion

Havana, Jun 25 (RHC) Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez expressed the solidarity of his country's people and government to Russian President Vladimir Putin following an attempted armed rebellion in the Eurasian state.

We have total conviction that unity and constitutional order will prevail, assured the head of state, after learning of a detente in the dispute, mediated by Belarus, which prevented a complication of the attempt and an internal armed conflict.

The Belarusian president, Alexander Lukashenko, after a phone call with Putin, held talks with the founder of the private military group, Evgueni Prigozhin, who agreed to put an end to the insurrection of some 20,000 men under his command.

Prigozhin, who ordered to take control of the General Staff of the Southern District of the Russian Armed Forces in the city of Rostov-on-Don and march to Moscow, suspended the movement of his forces throughout the Russian territory and their return to camps in the Donbas region.

The arrangement with Lukashenko included the cancellation of an investigation opened by Russian security to bring charges against the founder of the Wagner group, who received assurances from Putin of travel to Belarus and protection for members of the private armed group.

Wagner was involved in Russia's takeover of the city of Artimiovsk (Bakhmut for Ukrainians), in Donetsk, but its top leader referred to an alleged rocket attack against a camp of the group, a fact denied by the Russian Ministry of Defense. (Source: PL)
